Gala Chair’s Acknowledgements

Les Marmitons International, like Samuel de Champlain’s Order of Good Cheer, on a rotating basis, selects a chapter to host our annual gala, a four-day celebration of fine food, wine, music, and the pleasant company of our indulgent partners and friends old and new. 2018 is Halifax’s turn to honour this tradition by showcasing the best of what we gather, bake, grow, brew, pickle, hunt, catch, craft and play in Nova Scotia.

Like the “Chef Stewards” of Champlain’s Order, we could not have staged this celebration without the very generous support of our local chefs, artisans and community partners whose names and logos are listed at the back of this program.

The members of the LMI Executive, especially Scott Kingsland and Adrian Feregotto, members with special expertise, like Guy Girard and John Howlett, former Gala Chairs, especially Bruce Johnson and the Keowee Chapter, were extremely generous in sharing their expertise and even money with us.
We could not have hosted this Gala without the unconditional support of the Halifax Chapter Executive under the unflagging leadership of Brian Fortune (Marvin Burnett, Donnie Fiander, Tim Hurlbut, Phil Miles and Angelo Rudic), Gala team leaders (Mike Bernard, Dan Duchene, Rob Ellerbeck, Nick Grady, John Fenton, Dan Jones, Wayne Maillet, Eric Mullaley, Adrian Saturley and Andy Sherin) and other chapter members worked long hours to set the table and prepare this feast.

To everyone, especially our distinguished guests from away, thank you for the pleasure of your company. As newly inducted chevaliers of the Order, you should know that the only condition for continuing membership in the Order is a promise that you will visit Nova Scotia and break bread with us again.

As Champlain may have toasted, “now let us eat, drink and make merry”.
